In this section of the site there is supposed to be a slickly worded, fancy pants bio convincing you that I'm going to be the next big thing. The truth is, I don't think I'll be the next big thing. I make music because I love it. I'm not really looking to get paid, or to get famous. There are songs inside of me and to let them out seems only natural; I can't really imagine it any other way.
Being a solo singer songwriter is a new venture for me. When I was 15 I started playing with a group of guys under the name Seven. At first we were a ska band, and eventually we started experimenting with rhythm & blues and horn driven rock. Seven released three full length albums, and one live album. We traveled all over the Midwest and played for crowds ranging from several dozen to several thousands. Mostly several dozen.
Being out on my own is definitely strange. There's this thing in America where life is only worth living if it's lived in front of other people. Think reality tv, youtube, blogs, facebook, etc. I've always found this to be a rather tedious part of the American dream, and here I am with a website, blog, facebook page, and youtube videos. I guess the best place to be is smack in the middle of a contradiction.
My biggest hope for this solo venture is to share the music that's on my heart and to build community wherever I can. I sincerely hope that you'll be encouraged, challenged, intrigued, and frustrated by the music. I hope that it will remind you that life is more than work, eat, sleep, and die. In the midst of life's madness I hope to point you toward something higher. The mystery of life is wide and deep. Our imaginations need to be equally such.
